The Pecile was used for strolling in the fresh shade during summer, and in the heated south side during winter. Notwithstanding this widely known interpretation, is considered a Circus for horse races, connected with the cult of the Sun.

Talking about the astronomical orientation of Roccabruna they say: "Its main axis... is oriented towards 298°, and coincides with the azimuth of the sunset on August 11th, dies imperii (when Hadrian became Emperor)". Actually 298° is near the azimuth of the sunset on Summer Solstice, june 21st: a macroscopic mistake that one would not expect in a course on Astronomy. They also say that Roccabruna is aligned with the Temple of Hercules in Tivoli, but there is a hill between the two, which could not see each other.

"Villa Adriana a Tivoli. Guida per l’insegnante" in Astronomia a Roma, percorsi. Sant’Oreste (Roma) 2010, pp. 95-118
Nothing is said about astronomical orientation: it is just an "evocative visiting itinerary inside the Villa... paying attention to the relationship between the stars and the architecture of the Villa". The title "Guide for Teachers" cannot justify the fundamental mistake of the book: Marguerite Yourcenar’s historical romance "Memoirs of Hadrian" is considered the main source to explain a complex that was built some two thousand years before. On the other hand, accepted and proven interpretation made by archaeologists are considered "discouragingly flat and weakly utilitarian" probably because they do not "proceed by sympathy" as Mrs. Yourcenar.
