8 - SUBTERRANEAN ROAD NETWORK
SUMMARY

Hadrian's Villa had an incredible network of subterranean road, that reached all the buildings.
It is a network of underground tunnels dug into the tuff bank, several kilometers long.
It made it possible to hide underground the traffic of the carts bringing supplies for those who lived in the Villa: the emperor, his court, staff and slaves.
The fulcrum of this system was the Great Trapezium, which was connected with other underground tunnels for carts or pedestrians listed below.

A - Subterranean driveway of the Fede Nymphaeum
B - Subterranean driveway of the Golden Square
C - Pedestrian tunnel from Roccabruna to the Accademia
D - Pedestrian tunnel of the Underworld (Inferi)
E - Pedestrian tunnel of the Mausoleum
