8 - SUBTERRANEAN ROAD NETWORKSUMMARY
Hadrian's Villa had an incredible network of subterranean road, that reached all the buildings.
It is a network of underground tunnels dug into the tuff bank, several kilometers long.
It
made it possible to hide underground the traffic of the carts bringing
supplies for those who lived in the Villa: the emperor, his court, staff
and slaves.
The fulcrum of this system was the Great Trapezium,
which was connected with other underground tunnels for carts or
pedestrians listed below.
