Villa Adriana, Accademia. I mosaici del cardinal Furietti
in Amoenitas, Rivista internazionale di studi miscellanei sulla villa romana antica, III, 2014, pp. 95-121.
In the years in 1736 and 1737 monsignor Giuseppe Alessandro Furietti made very successful excavations in the Accademia of Hadrian's Villa in Tivoli (Rome), finding mosaics of exceptional quality.
The most famous is the Mosaic of the Doves, one of the absolute masterpieces of mosaic art.
During the excavations he found many fragments of mosaics and had the clever idea of using them to make table tops, creating a new fashion. For the first time, this article identifies and publishes many of those tables.
